We, the “Salesians of Don Bosco” (Salesians) are a 16,000 strong international Society founded by St John Bosco (popularly known as Don Bosco) in 1859, now working in 131 countries of the world. We engage in various types of educational enterprises such as Youth Centres, Schools at all levels, Technical and Professional Schools, Colleges and Universities, Rehabilitation Centres for vagrant and wayward youth. We also undertake pastoral activities in parishes and social development projects in poor and backward areas with a view to improving the overall living conditions of the youth by developing the social milieu in which they live and work.
The preferred target group of the Salesians consists of children and youth, especially those who are most at risk and have no one to care for them because of various factors.
The overall aim of our work is to help every young person find his/her rightful place in society by helping him/her to become “a good citizen and a God-fearing person”. The chief means we employ to achieve this aim is education in various settings and overall social development programmes and projects.
For funding our projects in favour of the youth at risk and the poor in general, who are unable to pay for their own education and development, we rely almost exclusively on funds coming from donor agencies, including Governments and private donors.
Bangladesh is the newest country that we Salesians have adopted as our field of action. The first foundation is situated at a place called Utrail, close to Birisiri and Durgapur in the district of Netrokona. It falls within the Catholic diocese of Mymensingh and is situated at a distance of 55 KM to the North of Mymensingh.
